Mercury Retrograde October 2014

Welcome to the last Mercury Retrograde of the year! I know most folks aren’t likely to find this to be an awesome time but I am one of few who appreciates what it can bring without having mercury retrograde in my own birth chart.

Today, October 4th, the retrograde period actually begins. The planet of the lower mind, communication, language, short travels, transportation, siblings, and logic appears to backtrack through the sky and cause chaos on earth. Computers will crash. Planes will fall out of the sky. The world will devolve into a lawless place where logic and reason are no more!!!

Not really. Yes, there is potential for screw ups but that is mainly because we go completely against the grain of what the planet is showing us. If the planet of communication slowed down and revisited where it has traveled over the last 2 weeks then we should too. Retrograde periods are made for reviewing, refining, and reevaluating. Take a page from the planet and do the same. Of course the sign that Mercury is traveling through means something as well and this period will see it through the beginning of Scorpio and almost halfway in Libra.

Mercury in Scorpio is inquisitive but in an intense way. It tends to just know things but this is the result of a keen instinct and detailed observation. Scorpio confers a bluntness and directness of speech to Mercury along with a passion that can be off putting or inspiring depending on the audience. When mercury is in Scorpio, as a whole, we tend to look to the occult and the darker things in life. We begin to plan our strategies for next year and look to the resources that we have at our disposal.

Mercury in Libra wants to speak fairly and diplomatically but has a tendency to do so from a cold distance. There is a instinct to measure and compare in order to find the value or logic in things and that can cause indecision if there is a lot of data to use. Not one to try to ruffle feathers, mercury in Libra will communicate in a tactful manner until it sees no other choice. As a whole, when mercury is in Libra we tend to evaluate ourselves in relation to the world around us. We think about what types of relationships and partnerships would add to our cache and seek them out. We charm and quietly dazzle to make the connections we want so that we can continue on in our all around fulfilment.

When Mercury back tracks through Scorpio, it’s time to review the observations that we have made recently, especially in our intimate partnerships.
~Did we focus too much on the bad or skipped it all together?
~Did our emotional quest to get to the bottom of things cause us to manipulate the people we care about?

When Mercury returns to Libra, revisiting where we may have caused imbalance in our lives can be crucial.
~Did we give up too much to others in order to receive validation in a relationship?
~Did we overlook where we could have asked for more in order to not rock the boat?

All of this is great information to start off with, along with the usual tips- try not to sign new contracts or make big purchases, reread everything before you send it out, back up all electronics, and make back up plans for delays in travel. Where these problems could affect you mostly depends on what planets Mercury touches and which houses it traverses all in your birth chart. Pull up your chart if you have it and if it looks like scribbles and swirls, then schedule a consultation with me and I’ll help you decipher it.

Don't just stare at NGT. Schedule your consultation already

The important thing is to do what you can to go back mentally before moving forward. Mercury retrograde doesn’t have to be chaos and craziness. It can be a useful time to figure things out as well.

Libra New Moon 2014

There is a stillness with this new moon. Even though Libra is a cardinal sign, there are no major aspects to this configuration. This brings an extra peaceful yet focused energy into play. It almost seems to suggest a meditation like quality to the start of this lunar month. I say plan accordingly. Quiet talks and dulcet pursuits should be on our list for the next day or two. Libra already has a strong appreciation for beauty and tranquility so this should not be too hard.

Perfect moon to spend with a good friend

Perfect moon to spend with a good friend

This isn’t necessarily the time to turn up

Clear and diplomatic negotiations and interactions are good right now. The ability to not take opposition personally, yet still reside confidently in who we are should be the goal. Connect with others. Be social. Support the arts. But keep your raging party animal at bay. Make plans to seek balance and beauty. Appreciate the fine details (Venus rules Libra and Venus is currently in Virgo). Weigh your options this lunar month and take it easy.

Pisces Full Moon- September 2014

Atpisces1 9:38pm ET this evening, we will have our last super moon of the year. It is a full moon in Pisces opposite the sun in Virgo at 16°. This involves what many call the axis of service; Virgo deals largely with practical service in the mundane world and Pisces concerns itself largely with imaginative service in the spiritual realm. The opposition of these two energies should be our main focus with this full moon.

Our focus on the things we do everyday to survive in the modern world (sun in Virgo) should not completely supersede the emotional need to imagine and compassionately connect with a higher power (moon in Pisces). The balance of both is necessary and the full moon is a reminder to look back over where we came from to see where we can balance them a bit more. This can be a bit of a heartbreaking task. Noticing where we fell short is hard; even more so when we are moving from a Virgo centered perspective.

Chiron makes a tight conjunction with the moon tonight so old wounds may feel fresh. The pressure to martyr ourselves, to make up for past real or imagined transgressions, may bubble up as well. Allow yourself to feel it, find a comforting friend to listen (it may be easier since mercury moved into Libra- listening and considering others is a mainstay of this combo), and let it go.

“You may say that I’m a dreamer/ but I’m not the only one” Pisces energy understands connection to humanity through the unseen and unknown.

Pisces is excellent at reminding us that we find God/Goddess in the people we meet and connect with everyday. Moon in Pisces nudges us to imagine compassionate ways to interact with humanity. Building bridges on rocky shores is a kind of superpower that the fishes have.

Refine your everyday living with all of the preciseness of Virgo. Assisting others in practical ways is not always Pisces’ first mind for compassionate service but it can do a world of good as well. Giving to others in such a way allows for a free flowing of love that nurtures body, mind, and spirit.

Venus in Aries- May 2014

Venus moved into Aries on May 3rd of 2014 and I don’t think that most folks felt it. They didn’t consciously understand the shifting of “us” centered values to “I” centered values due to Mars currently moving in a retrograde motion through Libra. That still doesn’t mean that it didn’t shift. Thoughts of what makes us feel loved are simmering below the surface; slowly bubbling up to get our undivided attention. Aries does not care for playing second fiddle so when Venus moves through it we all focus on ourselves a bit more. There is nothing wrong with this. We need to check in on ourselves occasionally to make sure that we are being filled, appreciated, and valued in all of our relationships. Venus in Aries makes sure that we do so and don’t necessarily apologize for it.

We are focused on attracting things that makes us feel unique with this placement. Relationships, situations, and people that value our individuality and ability to strike out into newness are what our hearts yearn for. Inject some spontaneity into your current relationship or try a new place to find a date. Love is passionate under this placement but also self centered. When Venus meets up with Uranus in Aries expect some insights into your current relationships that could expand on where you need to readjust the “I/US” balance and allow you to figure out some missing hidden piece of yourself that has been neglected in your relationships. We value boldness, brashness, and a can do attitude right now. Enjoy it.

New Moon in Aries- March 2014

The new moon is coming up and it’s a doozy folks. If you have hung around the page long enough you know that new moons start each lunar month and that it is a prime time to set intentions and start short term plans and goals. This new moon is happening in Aries where it will also conjunct Uranus and square Pluto in Capricorn and Jupiter in Cancer.

Aries Moon-by D.Eskridge

What does all of that goobley gook mean? Be prepared for your life, your outlook, your environment to change. Emotions will be running high as they always are when the moon moves into Aries. There is a certain amount volatility and losing ourselves to the emotions of the moment that happens at this time. Sometimes it is bravery. Sometimes it is foolishness. Either way, we tend to cross into unplanned territory. When this is combined with the seemingly erratic nature of Uranus ,we get a recipe for spiritual insights and inspirations to shake the very foundation of who we are on an individual level. Aries is all about the single cell, the ego, the unique individual and since our emotions become more in tune with this during the moon’s transit, Uranus will give real insight into who we are and how we yearn to break free. Uranus shocks and Aries is more than capable of being the lone wolf operative that is willing to do so.

The moon and sun will also be in a tense aspect with Pluto and Jupiter. The heavenly bodies of destruction and expansion will be at odds with the yin and yang cores of us. Pluto in Capricorn wants to tear down old traditional power structures. With this setup it will seem to be very hard for us to let go in a way that is quiet or gracious. We may rail and scream but we need to lean into it in the most seamless way that we can. (Since Mars, the ruling planet of Aries is currently retrograde, we may be less inclined to fight for as long as we would). Jupiter in Cancer is also tensly aspecting the new moon. Our desire to connect and expand on our roots and traditions is heavy with this placement and at odds with so many other configurations happening currently. This square might entice us to expand our foothold, especially on an emotional level before we are able to fully disconnect from what no longer serves us.

This new moon wants us to get ready. As much as we want to rush forward, our best bet is to rush inward. Use the insights that we garner during this time to do some serious emotional and spiritual cleaning. The universe seems to be conspiring to help us do so real inner work. Use the courage that is a huge part of Aries to not stop and get the work done. Think twice before you speak. Be kinder to others because we are all feeling overrun and on edge.
